The Frozen Rule of Motivation
Motivation, a simple but powerful word. Some definitions:
"A reason or reasons for acting or behaving in a particular way"
"Desire or willingness to do something; enthusiasm"
As you can see, the definition is a clear about what is the meaning of this
word. The idea is to achieve more, to have the willpower to make something
happen.
No Motivation
How many times in your life you felt like there is no motivation at
all. They are many scenarios where this :
- At home, when you are dealing with your spouse, parents, kids;
- At school, with your colleagues, friends, teachers, the school
subjects;
- At work, facing your boss, teammates, your work.
Most of these scenarios are almost casually, frequently ones. That means
you should face at least one of these day-by-day (or you can live in a
cave alone and, even that, this article can be useful for you someway).
There are places/situations where you just stay there, doing things in a
mechanical way, day after day, waiting for the payment at the end of the
month, or just waiting and waiting for... nothing...
It's not my intent to extend myself too much into the scenario of no
motivation. You can feel it, see it, face it. So, let's talk about the
Frozen's Rule.
The Frozen's Rule
You have probably watched the animation Frozen II right? If not, don't
worry, it's not a spoiler time. I just wanna talk about one of the most
fantastic songs (if not the most) of this movie, called
Show Yourself. It's impressive the way that this song can touch us
in a way that Disney knows how to produce:
Now, you must be thinking: what's this about motivation, especially related
to me. It has everything.
Try listening to this song again, changing the expression Show Yourself to
Know Yourself, and you will understand what I mean by this
rule.
The entry point for your motivation is to know yourself. Most of the time
you can feel like normal rules don't apply to you, that you are different
from others, and, most important, that you don't know yourself enough. This
is a powerful thought that can change your life.
How to Apply?
Knowing yourself is a challenge for everyone. They are many strategies,
from sessions with the psychiatrist to different types of meditation. What I like the most to do in order to recognize myself more is
writing.
I believe that when you write a story about yourself, especially when it's
about what occurred in your childhood, good or bad things, you can have many
small tips about why you are in the present. The process of externalizing
these thoughts in words helps more on this way of self-knowledge.
Action Time
Now that you know yourself in a way the Frozen's music is telling and
based on this knowledge you acquire about yourself, you have the conditions to go to action. Here are some
tips:
- Objectives: focus on the long-term objective, and be aware
that to achieve them, you should follow step by step on the short-term
ones.
- Enjoy the Journey: as well described in the book "Who Moved My
Cheese", you should enjoy the journey from the small objectives to the
main one. Even when you never achieve the biggest objective of your life
(and this scenario can occur) at least you've enjoyed each step until
the end.
- Father's Rule: it was something my father always said:
"Be the Temple of Yourself"
We are the most valuable thing in our entire lives. No matter the level
of importance the others around you have, don't forget it. So, you
should be good with yourself (body and mind), have enough strength to
move on, being motivated.
-
Respect: another thought here is that you should never patronize
other people, but don't let them patronize you as well. You have your
own opinions and thoughts so put yourself in shape, be motivated to have
good knowledge (with a consequence, have good answers for the questions
that will come).
- Care: it's related to all the previous items. You should care about yourself,
from your body to your mind. What you eat, read, the places you go, the
friends you make. Everything has an influence on you and when you know
yourself in a good way you can say what's good (or not too good) for
you.
-
Improvement: you should try to improve yourself, no matter what.
Why? The answer is simple: because you care about yourself.
Follow baby-steps, each at a time, from the most simple to
the complex. You will get it.
- Unique: yes, you are unique. This is the most reason you
must be motivated. It's because you know things that nobody knows, you
have capabilities and knowledge enough. The best thing is
that you can learn A and teach B, resulting in knowledge of A +
B.
The End?
Absolutely not. It's just the beginning. If you don't feel motivated
yet, follow the Frozen Rule, listen to the music again (don't forget to
change Show Yourself for Know Yourself). Put yourself in contact with
the freezing and amazing world of your thoughts.
Grow yourself into something new, change the world. Beginning with you
:-)
